With your permission, Location Service allows the apps on your phone to access your current location to provide accurate location-based information. To use this feature, you need to connect to a Wi-Fi or mobile data network and give permission to each app before it can use your location data. For more information, continue reading below.
Note: Check your phone's ColorOS version in [Settings] > [About Phone] / [About Device].
Swipe down from the top of any screen on your phone to open the Control Center fully, then tap and hold to enter [Location]. If you can't see the Location icon on your Control Center, see How to Rearrange Control Center Icons on OPPO Phone.
Alternatively, go to [Settings] and toggle [Location]/ [Location Service] to turn on. In some OPPO phones, you can turn on the location services through [Settings] > [Google] and toggle [Location] to turn it on.
You can choose from three types of positioning modes, which differ in accuracy and battery drain:
High accuracy (GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and mobile network).
Low battery use (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and mobile network).
Device only (GPS).
Note: Positioning mode is not available for ColorOS 6.0 and above. The Positioning Control is replaced with 2 options; Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning.
You'll see a list of apps that have requested locations. On the home screen, tap and hold an app of your choice to enter [App info], which provides you with several actions to manage the app.
You will see a list of apps that use GPS in the background. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. You are recommended to turn them off when not in use.
Sign in to your [Google account], then you can use Google Location Services to retrace your steps and share your locations with friends and contacts in real-time.
For security reasons, the location information of your OPPO phone may be used when you make an emergency call, regardless of whether you enable Location service.
Note: Location support for emergency calls is only available for ColorOS 5.2 and above devices.
1. Make sure your OPPO phone is connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile data network with a strong signal.
2. Scroll down from the top to enter the Control center, then tap and hold to enter [Location], then choose [High Accuracy].
Note: Please refer to the Positioning mode above.
3. You may be in an area with a weak satellite signal. Change your location and test again.
4. Make sure that you set the date, time, and time zone correctly on your device. See How to Set Up Date and Time on OPPO Phone.
5. Switch to a different Wi-Fi network and try again.
6. Reset network settings (APN settings).
For ColorOS 7 to ColorOS 13 and above: Go to [Settings] > [Mobile Network] / [SIM card & mobile data] / [SIM & mobile network] / [Dual SIM & mobile network] > tap the SIM card you wish to reset the APN, and tap [Access point names], and at the upper right corner, tap the [two-dotted] / [three-dotted] icon and tap [Reset access points] and tap [Reset access points] again to proceed.
For ColorOS 6.1 and below: Go to [Settings] > [SIM and Mobile Network] / [Dual SIM & Mobile Network] > tap the SIM card > [Access Point Name] and tap.
7. Force stop and clear cache for the app that's not detecting the location.
8. Update the app that's using the location service. See How to Update Applications in Google Play Store
9. Make sure the Location permission is turned on for the app that's using the Location service in App permissions. See The App Permission Manager on OPPO Phone.
10. Perform Common Problems Detection /Component check/ Quick Check/ Diagnostics for GPS Switch and connection.
11. Move to a place with a clear view. Walls, tall buildings, and other obstructions can block the GPS signal.
12. Restart your OPPO phone and test again. Press and hold the Power and the Volume Up buttons for at least 8 seconds to restart.
13. Reset system settings. This will not delete your data as this will only reset the system setting. See How to Factory Reset an OPPO Phone.
14. Go to [Settings] > [Software Updates] / [System updates] / [About Device] and update your phone to the latest software version.
